A Long Time Coming…Several years ago, I would see you and your dogs at the dog park near my home.  I thought it was odd that they stayed so close to you even off-leash as you’d walk “the track” with them.  And when I started seeing so many of the other dogs in the park (my own included) start to follow you or run up to see you as you continued your walk, I wondered what was going on. It seemed to happen every time you were there. The dogs would even seem to line up at the gate a few minutes before you got there just waiting for you to come in to the park and would then follow you immediately! If you took a few minutes and sat on one of the benches, a multitude of dogs of various size and shape would sit or lay down around you, as if you were going to tell them all a story! After a few minutes, they would all get up and run off to play, just as happy as could be!  It was really funny to watch!

But, I have to admit to you that I was part of that very vocal group who thought you had some “doggie treats” that you were secretly handing out to them (which is a big “no, no” at the park).  I mean, why else would dogs that you didn’t even know come and want to spend time with you if you didn’t have something you were giving them?

Well, I didn’t know anything about you or the work that you did or how it is done.  I just know that the energy of the whole park would seem to be transformed from the frantic, machismo-like, let’s-burn-off-some-of-that-energy kind of place to one that was a pleasant and enjoyable place to spend the morning, afternoon or evening with one’s dog or dogs. Sure, the dogs would still run and play–even rambunctiously, but there would be no squabbles among them or their people, and the ones that sometimes could be troublemakers would leave the park.

I have moved from that area a year or so ago, but went to visit some old neighbors recently.  As we caught up about kids and pets and life, our daily trips to the dog park came up and they talked about not having seen you there for some time.

The next day, I had to take my girl, Lizzie, my chocolate Lab, into the vet for a senior’s check up.  She was quite anxious about being there (as was I).  I got to thinking about you and how those dogs all seemed to calm down with you nearby, and wished that you could help calm Lizzie right then.  I was chatting with another lady who was there with her dog, Kelsey, and telling her about my experience at that dog park years ago.  She said she had just met someone the day before in another part of town who apparently does that kind of thing, and she had your card in her wallet.  She described you to me, and I knew that it was you!  And just at that same time, Lizzie and Kelsey both settled down, as did the girls in the vet’s front office.  We all just “relaxed”.  It was truly as though you had heard my request.

So even though you probably don’t really remember me or Lizzie, I wanted to say “thank you” for helping Lizzie at that visit to the vet (and me, too).  I also wanted to apologize for those not-so-kind accusations from years ago–of giving the dogs treats to get them to follow you.  I know now, that the endless ”treats” you gave the dogs weren’t from any box, they were all from your Heart.  Best wishes to you.  Lizzie’s Mom (& Lizzie, too!)

Tuning Forks for Jasmine! I know I laughed out loud when you said you wanted to do some “tuning fork therapy” on my 28 year old mare.  But practically from the moment you started she could hardly keep her eyes open!  More to the point, when you were done, she seemed to breathe better, her eyes seemed brighter (once she woke up), and I think she even stood a little more at ease!  Plus, I think she likes it!  Thanks.
